When it comes to healthy skin that glows from within, there’s more to the story than just your skincare products. Hormones play a major role in everything from breakouts to skin elasticity and hydration, so learning how to support hormone balance can make a big difference in skin health. Whether you’re pregnant, experiencing PMS, or going through perimenopause or menopause, we’ve got you covered with hormone-balancing tips to help you unlock your most radiant skin.
Focus on sleep quality
When it comes to keeping hormones balanced, sleep is the foundation upon which all other habits are built. Without adequate sleep, our circadian rhythms get thrown off, which can impact hormones throughout the rest of the body. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep every night to balance hormones and keep inflammation in check. Try creating your own bedtime routine, which might include a warm bath, meditation or gentle yoga, journaling, and a cup of our ultra-calming T.L.C. Tea!
Support liver detoxification
Our liver is responsible for breaking down and eliminating excess hormones from the body to keep us feeling balanced. Brassica veggies such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, and cauliflower contain compounds called glucosinolates that help clear excess estrogen in particular, making them a great addition to a hormone-balancing diet. Aim for at least one cup per day.
Other helpful herbs and foods that support phase one and phase two liver detoxification include apples, pears, berries, turmeric, ginger, lemons, leafy greens, and beets. We also formulated our gentle Everyday Detox Tea with functional herbs like dandelion and milk thistle to help support digestion and liver function.
Skip sugar and refined carbs
Not only are these foods low in nutrients, they’re also loaded with simple sugars that cause a spike in blood sugar. That spike prompts the release of extra insulin, and excess insulin can drive inflammation and ramp up oil production in the skin, showing up as redness, irritation, and sensitivity.
Chronic spikes and crashes in blood sugar also wreak havoc on hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, and in some cases can even affect sex hormones such as testosterone, as is the case in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Excess insulin can stimulate the ovaries to produce more testosterone, which can lead to a host of issues, including acne. Focus on a whole-foods diet that includes protein, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, and fibre with every meal and snack.
Our Pure Radiance Tea contains green tea and moringa, which help keep blood sugar stable, while our Rise and Shine Tea contains cinnamon, which can help increase insulin sensitivity.
Use hormone-free skincare
Did you know that your skin can absorb some of the ingredients in the products you put on it? How much gets through depends on several factors, including whether you have any broken skin, the size of the molecule, and whether your skin barrier function is compromised due to conditions such as acne, eczema, and rosacea.
If you’re regularly using beauty products that contain hormone-disrupting chemicals such as phthalates, parabens, pesticides, synthetic fragrances, and certain synthetic preservatives, it can negatively impact your hormone balance and skin health. Luckily, every product we create is free from all of the above and more! We formulate each one with functional ingredients to support skin health and help you glow, naturally.
Our Complete Skincare Set brings together five simple steps for healthy, glowing skin: cleanse with Fresh Face, balance with Magical Mist, hydrate with Hella Hydrating, nourish the delicate eye area with Eye Elixir, and gently exfoliate with Super Natural.
Fresh Face Daily Cleanser
Fresh Face is super gentle on your skin while it works to remove excess oil, makeup, dirt, and pollution. Infused with organic ingredients like anti-inflammatory comfrey root and skin-softening jojoba, it leaves your skin feeling supple and refreshed, not stripped and dry.
Magical Mist Hydrosol Toner
Magical Mist nourishes and balances your skin with a magical combination of skin-lovin’, antioxidant-rich organic ingredients like anti-inflammatory rose geranium to calm, calendula to soothe, and witch hazel to balance and tone.
Hella Hydrating Serum
The replenishing Hella Hydrating Serum nourishes and hydrates the skin while sealing in moisture for smoother, softer skin, thanks to the power duo of organic cold-pressed rosehip oil and hyaluronic acid.
Eye Elixir
The nourishing Eye Elixir is rich in antioxidants to help reduce puffiness, dark circles, fine lines, and signs of premature aging. Fatty acids from jojoba and rosehip soften and increase the suppleness of the delicate skin around the eyes.
Super Natural Exfoliating Mask
Super Natural uses organic oats and white clay to gently exfoliate the skin and remove impurities, allowing your natural glow to shine through. Anti-inflammatory calendula, comfrey, and marshmallow root improve skin tone and help regenerate the skin.
We hope this inspires you to make small, lasting changes to your routine to support healthy hormones and unlock your most radiant skin!
